In the Victorian Curriculum F–10, Performing Arts includes Dance, Drama, and Music.
The Arts enable students to develop their creative and expressive capacities by learning about the different practices, disciplines and traditions that have shaped the expression of culture locally, nationally and globally.
Learning in Performing Arts involves students engaging in experiences drawn from a variety of genres and styles, from a range of cultures, times and locations.
The curriculum is organised into the following experiences and skills; Explore and express, Performing Arts practices, present and perform, respond and interpret.
Performing Arts at Sherbourne Primary School
At Sherbourne Primary School, we believe the performing arts play an important role in helping students develop confidence, creativity, connection and a strong sense of belonging. Through our valued partnership with Bianca Fenn School of Music (BFSM), students have access to a wide range of high-quality music and performance opportunities that complement their learning and enrich school life.
These opportunities include:
- Private music lessons during school hours in guitar, piano, drums, singing, ukulele and bass guitar, delivered by experienced BFSM teachers.
- Regular performance opportunities, including school concerts, showcases and community events, where students can celebrate their progress and build confidence performing in front of an audience.
- Group music programs, including singing clubs and vocal ensembles, that encourage teamwork, creativity and a love of making music together.
- Creative school holiday programs, where students collaborate to write, rehearse and perform original productions, developing skills in music, drama, storytelling and performance.
- Whole-school performing arts experiences, with BFSM working alongside our staff to support productions, special events and creative learning projects that bring our school community together.
