Physical Education

At Sherbourne we highly value the importance of leading a heathy, active life. We run a very inclusive and positive Physical Education program. Students learn fundamental motor skills and learn a wide range of sports. Some of these sports offered include lacrosse, swimming, athletics, cricket, football, netball, basketball, gymnastics, dance, skipping, hockey, bat tennis, rounders, softball and tee ball.

All students take part in a 50 minute PE skills lesson each week with our specialist PE/Sport teacher. Both Middle and Upper School classes take part in an additional sports session each Friday.

Students in grades 5 and 6 all participate in Friday Summer and Winter Interschool Sport where they train and compete against other primary schools in our local area.

In addition to their 50 minute weekly PE session, Prep students participate in a 50 minute Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) each week which involves eye – hand and eye – foot co-ordination, fitness, balance and gymnastic stations. We welcome parent helpers for such sessions.

Sherbourne has strong links with our local community, with many sports groups delivering clinics to our students at various times throughout the year.

At Sherbourne we run our own Swimming and Athletics Carnivals for grade 3 to 6 students as well as a whole school Cross Country Run. During all events students are selected for further levels of competition.

Additional PE related ‘special days’ that run annually include our Footy Day (dress up and AFL skills) and the Billy Cart Grand Prix.

Sherbourne encourages students to walk, ride or scoot to school and we have designated bike and scooter parking racks.
