SWPBS and SEL

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

"School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a globally recognised, evidence-based framework that helps schools create safe, positive, and inclusive environments where students and staff can thrive.

SWPBS supports the Education State priorities and the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 by helping schools build consistent, whole-school systems that promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, and inclusion—creating the right conditions for effective teaching, learning, and leadership across the school." https://www.vic.gov.au/school-wide-positive-behaviour-support

Our SEL lessons are supported by our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework. Recently, we worked with students, staff, and families to reflect on our school values, ensuring they truly represent who we are as a community. This process re-established our shared identity and led to our new values of Curiosity, Growth, Connect, and Respect. These values guide how we learn, behave, and interact both at school and in the wider community.

Each week, we highlight one value from our School Matrix as a whole-school focus. Students take on the role of "Values Detective," spotting and recording moments when their peers demonstrate this focus. These acts are celebrated at assembly, where tickets are drawn from our Values Letterbox and recognised with a prize—building a culture of positivity and encouragement.

Our SWPBS framework also includes clear expectations around behaviour, co-created with our students, to ensure that Sherbourne is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming place for all.

At Sherbourne, we are proud to create a school environment where every child feels connected, supported, and inspired to learn, have fun, and grow.

Social and Emotional Learning

At Sherbourne Primary School, we believe that Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is just as important as academic success. Every grade participates in weekly SEL lessons, designed to meet the unique needs of our students. Our program blends the essential Respectful Relationships curriculum with practical tools from The Social Stencil, creating meaningful and relevant learning experiences.

Respectful Relationships Program

"Respectful Relationships promotes respect and gender equality and helps students learn how to build healthy relationships. It prepares students to face challenges by developing problem-solving skills and building resilience and confidence." https://www.vic.gov.au/respectful-relationships

Social Stencil

"Social Stencil is an Australian neuroaffirming social-emotional curriculum that supports all young people to explore and understand themselves and others; our social, emotional, sensory, and learning similarities and our differences. At Social Stencil we call that peer-to-peer learning.

Young people then work together to understand friendship concepts, why and how conflict happens, and a skill set of strategies to manage conflict and life’s tricky moments." https://www.socialstencil.com/
